Meeting with the NATO Secretary General

On July 19, 2023, the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance in Brussels.
President Vučić thanked NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg for showing his willingness to listen to the Serbian side as well.
"I conveyed to Mr. Stoltenberg all our concerns about the position of the Serbs, due to the arbitrary arrest, persecution of the Serbian population and the desire for the Serbs to be expelled not only from the north, but from all of Kosovo and Metohija. I asked NATO to take control and provide the Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija with a life worthy of a human being. It is our duty to request it from those who are responsible for it according to Resolution 1244," said President Vučić after the meeting. He stated that he submitted all the evidence in writing to the Secretary General of the Alliance about everything that was done against the Serbian people with the coming to power of the so-called prime minister of the temporary institutions of Priština, Aljbin Kurti.
"I must say that I am very worried about the latest events in all of Kosovo and Metohija, not only in the north. This visit is very important for us, because we would like to maintain peace and stability, as well as this level of relationship between NATO and Serbia, based on mutual respect and trust," the President pointed out and added that, in the conversation, he pointed out to the NATO Secretary General that, according to the Resolution 1244, nothing can exist in Kosovo and Metohija that is representing continuity with the KLA.
"Things are getting out of control because of the irresponsible behavior of one man. We are being careful regarding the entire case. The solutions are not easy, but the citizens of Serbia should not worry," said President Vučić.
President Vučić also met with the European Union's special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Priština and other regional issues of the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajčak, with whom he discussed the last round of technical talks between Belgrade and Priština and ways to calm tensions on the ground.
The President expressed, as the lowest common denominator in the conversation with special envoy Lajcak, his desire to de-escalate as soon as possible, but he added that "it will certainly not be easy".
